CER1(d18:1/28:0/18:2)
N-[28-linoleoyloxy octacosanoyl]-D-erythro-sphingosine
N-[28-linoleoyloxy octacosanoyl]-D-erythro-sphingosine, or CER1(d18:1/28:0/18:2), is a specialized sphingolipid essential for maintaining skin barrier integrity and hydration. As a key component of the stratum corneum (SC)—the outermost layer of the skin—ceramides play a vital role in regulating water retention and protecting against environmental stressors. The lipid matrix of the SC is primarily composed of ceramides, free fatty acids, and cholesterol, which form a highly organized structure that prevents excessive transepidermal water loss.
Dysfunction in ceramide composition has been linked to a number of dermatological conditions, including lamellar ichthyosis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis.
Application
CER1(d18:1/28:0/18:2) serves as an internal standard for high-throughput lipidomics studies, enabling precise quantification of ceramide species in biological samples. It is also used to investigate the role of ceramides in skin hydration, barrier function, and dermatological disease mechanisms. Additionally, CER1(d18:1/28:0/18:2) supports research in advanced skincare and dermatological therapeutics that work to restore lipid balance in compromised skin.
Packaging
Avanti Research™ provides CER1(d18:1/28:0/18:2) in 1mg powder, offering customized options to meet diverse research and formulation needs.
