Phosphosphingolipids
Phosphosphingolipids are a group of sphingolipids that have been phosphorylated at the C-1 hydroxyl group of the sphingoid base. The sphingoid base can also be linked to a fatty acid through an amide bond as well as the phosphate group can be attached to various groups like choline or ethanolamine. The phosphosphingolipids with unmodified phosphate groups are involved in many signaling pathways. The sphingolipids with modified phosphate groups play structural roles in biological membranes.
