Polymers are a common modification made to lipids used for liposomal and lipid nanoparticle delivery systems. Adding a polymer-conjugated lipid to a formulation can improve several properties of the drug delivery system. Polyethyleneglycol (PEG) has historically been the most common polymer used in clinical practice. But recent studies have shown polysarcosine polymer-conjugated lipids to have similar stealth properties as PEG-conjugated lipids, but with the added bonus of an improved safety profile.
