Glycodeoxycholic acid
5β-cholanic acid-3α,12α-diol N-(carboxymethyl)-amide
Glycodeoxycholic Acid (Glycodeoxycholate / Deoxycholylglycine) is a metabolite, found predominantly as a sodium salt in humans. It belongs to the group of glycine conjugated bile acids (BAs).
Glycodeoxycholic Acid is derived from one of the secondary BAs, deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid, itself, is a byproduct of intestinal microbiota. It has a wide application in a variety of fields in human medicine. It is mainly used to prevent gallstone formation or to dissolve existing gallstones. In liver hepatocytes, deoxycholic acid undergoes a process of conjugation with glycine and forms Glycodeoxycholic Acid.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid has a role as a detergent that solubilizes fats for absorption and is itself absorbed. It also acts as a cholagogue and choleretic.
This glycine conjugate prompts a reversible, concentration-dependent reduction in myogenic tone in rats and reduces the expression of the gene that encodes the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoform 7A1 in rabbits.
Serum concentrations of Glycodeoxycholic Acid are elevated in non-surviving patients with acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure, compared to patients that survive.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid levels are also high in the serum of patients with asthma.
According to different studies, the compound shows the ability to participate in the initiation of acute and chronic pancreatitis.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid is believed to improve the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) phenotype. The mechanism through which the glycine derivative achieves this is by inducing IL-22 secretion in the intestinal group 3 innate lymphoid cells through the GATA-binding protein 3 and IL-22.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid is one of the many high-standard products from Avanti Research, manufactured to support researchers in a wide range of biomedical and preclinical research areas.
