5ß-Cholanic acid-3α,6α,7ß-triol N-(carboxymethyl)-amide
Glyco-ω-Muricholanoic Acid is an endogenous metabolite and a glycine conjugated bile acid (BA) of ω-Muricholanoic Acid. Both compounds are derivatives that belong to the class of muricholic acids.
Muricholic acids have steroid molecules and are specifically abundant in mice. This is where their name comes from. In other mammalian species, including humans, muricholic acids are present at low concentrations in urine. The feature that differentiates muricholic acids from the primary bile acids in humans (cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid) is a hydroxyl group in the β-conformation at position 6. There is another hydroxyl group at position 7 that defines α- or β-muricholic acid. The enzyme involved in the synthesis of muricholic acids is cytochrome P450 Cyp2c70.
Glyco-ω-Muricholanoic Acid, as a derivative of muricholic acids, serves a great role as a metabolite to observe and investigate muricholic acid behavior, interactions, metabolism, and homeostasis in the organism.
