| Polymers are often incorporated into liposomes to improve various properties of drug delivery vehicles. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is the most commonly used polymer in clinical practice. Due to its wide presence and distribution in the body, Cholesterol based PEGs can be used in liposomes, micelles, and in nanoparticles in order to deliver various agents such as antiviral and anticancer drugs. By changing the PEG length, one can change the micelle size, immunological safety, and change the drug release rate. |
