One of the challenges with Lipid Nano particles (LNPs) is the ability to be able to deliver the payload to the desired cells. However, certain functional groups could target desirable cells, but how does one functionalize a LNP with a desired functional group to achieve delivery to a specific cell? Click-chemistry offers some hope for easier linking of functional groups to other molecules to synthesize larger, more complex molecular structures. Clickable PEG lipids offer the ability to easily link specific cell targeting functional groups to the PEG lipid to achieve delivery to the desired targeted cells. By changing the PEG length, one can change the micelle size, immunological safety, and change the drug release rate.
