| C18(Plasm)-18:1 Cyanine 5 PE is a plasmalogen that is conjugated to a fluorescent probe. Plasmalogens are lipids that are key for structural support for cell membranes. They also play a key role as antioxidants in membrane function. Plasmalogens also may help in brain function and might be a potential therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative diseases. This lipid is conjugated to a cyanine 5 fluorescent probe to help researchers better understand this lipid’s role within the cell. Cyanine probes have a similar fluorescent profile to traditional dyes such as fluorescein but have increased photostability and water solubility. Cyanine probes can be detected using a variety of fluorescence detection techniques such as microscopy and flow cytometry. |
