Ent-DSPC
2,3-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-1-phosphocholine
Ent-DSPC/Ent-2,3-Distearoyl-sn-Glycero-1-Phosphocholine is an enantiomer of the compound DSPC/2,3-distearoyl-sn-glycero-1-phosphocholine.
Enantiomers are also known as optical isomers, optical antipodes, or just antipodes. They are pairs of non-superimposable mirror forms of one another. Enantiomeric molecules have the same connectivity but differ in their three-dimensional shapes, which are opposite to each other.
DSPC is a phosphocholine (PC) that is acylated at the sn-2 and sn-3 positions with stearic acid.
DSPC is among the main components of biological membranes. It's present in highest amounts in the outer leaflet of membranes. The compound plays a vital role in membrane-mediated cell signaling by forming particular derivatives.
DSPC is also proven to be an important phospholipid, circulating in plasma.
In the research field, DSPC is broadly used in the generation of lipid nanoparticles, necessary for creating mRNA vaccines.
The enantiomeric variation of the lipid, Ent-DSPC, serves as an important component in analytical projects to investigate the membrane lipids’ properties, determined by their chirality (a property of enantiomers that comes from a single chiral atom in a compound that causes its two possible enantiomeric structures).
Avanti Research provides pure and stable Ent-DSPC research detergent for an extensive range of studies on membrane lipids.
