Cholesteryl [azido(polyethylene glycol)-1000] carbamate
Cholesteryl-PEG(1000) Azide is a lipid used in drug delivery research. It is a cholesterol backbone attached to one side of a PEG unit and an Azide unit on the other side of the PEG. The azide unit allows for the lipid to become “clickable”. Click-chemistry offers some hope for easier linking of functional groups to other molecules to synthesize larger, more complex molecular structures. Clickable PEG lipids offer the ability to easily link specific cell targeting functional groups to the PEG lipid to achieve delivery to the desired targeted cells. By changing the PEG length, one can change the micelle size, immunological safety, and change the drug release rate.
