C25 Ceramide (d18:1/25:0)
N-pentacosanoyl-D-erythro-sphingosine
Ceramides are sphingosines that have a variable chain length fatty acid attached to the sphingosine back bone via the amid linkage. Ceramides are defined by their chain length as medium chain (C12–C14), long chain (C16–C18), very-long chain (C20–C24), and ultra-long chain (≥C26). Ceramides are extremely important in terms of in skin health and anti-aging, but their properties go beyond that. Ceramides regulation is key for activating the death of cancer cells, ceramides also play a key role in a lot of age related diseases, and ceramides with longer chain lengths have been shown to have a role in heart disease and obesity.
