C18:0-d7 GM3 Ceramide (d18:1/18:0-d7), synthetic
C18:0-d7 GM3 Ganglioside (Neu5Aca2,3Galb1,4Glcb-Ceramide(d18:1/18:0-d7))
C18:0-d7 GM3 ceramide (d18:1/18:0-d7), also known as C18:0-d7 GM3 ganglioside, is a synthetic, deuterium-labeled analog of naturally occurring GM3. This compound, with a formula of C59H101D7N2O21, features a sphingosine backbone (d18:1), a stearoyl fatty acid chain with seven deuterium atoms (18:0-d7), and an oligosaccharide chain that includes a sialic acid (Neu5Ac) residue.
Application
GM3 gangliosides are fundamental members of the ganglioside family, serving as precursors for more complex gangliosides. They are present in cell membranes, especially in the nervous system, and play key roles in cell signaling, cell cycle arrest, cell differentiation, communication, and growth factor receptor modulation. In glioma cells, C18 ceramide contributes to cell death. These functions make GM3 highly relevant in cancer research, where it influences tumor progression, and cardiovascular studies, where it’s linked to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
Moreover, GM3 regulates immune responses and impacts cellular signaling pathways in various metabolic conditions. Deuterium labeling (d7) enables precise tracking of GM3’s metabolic routes, making it invaluable for studying glycosphingolipid dynamics in health and disease. This makes C18:0-d7 GM3 ceramide ideal for research into cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and immune-related conditions, as well as fundamental studies in cell signaling.
