C18:0-d7 GM1 Ceramide (d18:1/18:0-d7), synthetic
C18:0-d7 GM1 Ganglioside (Galb1,3GalNAcb1,4(Neu5Aca2,3)Galb1,4Glcb-Ceramide(d18:1/18:0-d7)
C18:0-d7 GM1 ceramide (d18:1/18:0-d7), also known as C18:0-d7 GM1 ganglioside (Galb1,3GalNAcb1,4(Neu5Aca2,3)Galb1,4Glcb-Ceramide(d18:1/18:0-d7), is a synthetic, deuterium-labeled analog of the naturally occurring GM1 ganglioside. This complex glycosphingolipid features a sphingosine backbone (d18:1), a stearoyl fatty acid chain labeled with seven deuterium atoms (18:0-d7), and an oligosaccharide chain that includes a sialic acid (Neu5Ac) residue.
Application
GM1 gangliosides are critical components of the outer layer of the cell membrane, where they play a vital role in modulating cell signaling, neurodevelopment, and cell-to-cell communication. They are particularly abundant in neuronal tissues, making them crucial for brain function and development. GM1 is also involved in the regulation of growth factor receptors and the modulation of inflammatory responses.
The deuterium labeling (d7) in this synthetic version (C18:0-d7 Fuc-GM1 ganglioside ((Fuca1,2)Galb1,3GalNAcb1,4(Neu5Aca2,3)Galb1,4Glcb-Ceramide(d18:1/18:0-d7)) allows for precise tracking and analysis in metabolic studies, making it a powerful tool for research in neurobiology, lipidomics, and disease pathogenesis, including neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
