C18:0 GM1 Ganglioside-Biotin is a glycosphingolipid that contains C18:0 fatty sialic acid, and biotin (vitamin b7), linked to position 5 on sialic acid.
GM1 Ganglioside is abundant in the brains of mammals, where it consists of up to 10-20% of the total ganglioside mixture. It is also present in membranes of epithelial cells.
GM1 Ganglioside functions as a receptor for the cholera toxin, rotavirus, simian virus, and more, so it is a key element of bacterial toxicity and viral infections.
The ganglioside acts also as a neurotrophic and neuroprotective compound and has been applied in therapy for diabetic and peripheral neuropathies.
GM1 Ganglioside molecules have been studied to bind amyloid proteins, so the compound role in Alzheimer's disease is of interest for investigations.
Biotin-labeled GM1 Ganglioside can be used to study intracellular distribution of GM1 in various cellular systems.
With a comprehensive selection of excellent lipid products, Avanti Research can provide you with quality C18:0 GM1 Ganglioside-Biotin to advance your analyses and studies.
