a15:0-i15:0 PE is a branched phospholipid that has a methyl branch on both acyl chains. a15:0-i15:0 PE can be used in a wide range of chemical and immunological applications due to it being linked to the immunomodulatory properties of the gut bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila. This gut bacterium has been associated with favorable results on metabolism and checkpoint blockade in cancer immunotherapy. a15:0-i15:0 PE has some key features that set it apart such as being less potent that other known TLR2 agonists, preferentially inducing specific inflammatory cytokines, and at low doses resets activation thresholds for immune signaling.
