BMP is a compound found in low concentrations within mammalian cells. BMP is often dysregulated in lysosomal storage disorders. Recent studies have shown that BMP can be an important biomarker for detecting metastatic cancer, certain lysosomal storage disorders, or drug-induced phospholipidosis. Largely uncharacterized, BMP metabolism remains an understudied lipid metabolic pathway that could lead to a better understanding of lysosomal storage disorders.
