18:0 PG
18:0 PG, also known as 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)(sodium salt), is a phosphatidylglycerol (PG) derived from a L-glycerol 3-phosphate backbone structure and is ester-bonded to saturated fatty acids on carbons 1 and 2. It makes up a minor portion (1–2%) of most cell membranes.
Phosphatidylglycerols are phospholipids where glycerol forms ester bonds with the phosphate polar head group. PGs carry a negative charge under physiological pH conditions.
Application
Phosphatidylglycerol is a key component of lung surfactant, comprising up to 11% of total lipid content. It is used to assess fetal lung maturity and serves as a marker for assessing fetal fitness in clinical settings. It also aids in cardiolipin synthesis, an essential lipid for cellular function. The presence of PG in a bacterial membrane can reach up to 20%.
Packaging
Avanti Research offers 18:0 PG in powder form in 25 mg, 200 mg, and 1 g packaging. Ensure stability, purity, and reliability in your lipids research and development when you partner with Avanti Research.
