Azasterols are a group of compounds that have uses as anti-parasitic, antifungal, and anti-toxoplasma drugs. Traditional radioactive tracers and biochemical assays used for studying azasterol dynamics have significant weaknesses. These traditional methods often lack the required resolution to interrogate real-time interaction, not to mention safety concerns. The main features of the design of fluoro azasterol is the retention of the steroidal backbone, mirroring the structure of azasterol, and adding the luminescent group with minimal changes to the key properties of azasterol.
