Chenodeoxycholic Acid 3-Sulfate (3-sulfochenodeoxycholic acid / 3-sulfodeoxycholate) is a derivative of one of the primary bile acids (BAs) - chenodeoxycholic acid. It belongs to the class of organic bile salts and also bears a hydroxyl group. Chenodeoxycholic Acid 3-Sulfate molecules are highly hydrophobic, making the compound practically insoluble in water and relatively neutral.
Chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA / chenocholic acid), on the other hand, is an epimer of ursodeoxycholic acid and derives from cholesterol catabolism in liver hepatocytes as a result of a series of enzyme-regulated reactions. CDCA owns a wide range of properties in the human body, including aid in lipid metabolism, inhibiting liver cholesterol production and gallstones formation, anti-inflammatory functions, and more.
