Taurolithocholic Acid, commonly also referred to as Lithocholyltaurine or Taurolithocholate, is a human metabolite, and more specifically a bile acid (BA) taurine derivative.
It’s a compound, formed in the liver hepatocytes from conjugation of lithocholic acid with the amino acid taurine. Its precursor, lithocholic acid, is a BA, obtained from the primary BA chenodeoxycholic acid as a result of the microbiota metabolism in the intestines. Lithocholic acid is a detergent that solubilizes fats for absorption.
As a taurine conjugate of lithocholic acid, Taurolithocholic Acid, is also involved in the emulsification of fats and other sterols for absorption and is itself absorbed.
It’s also widely used as a cholagogue and choleretic agent since the compound is able to aid bile excretion.
Research results reveal that Taurolithocholic Acid increases apoptosis molecules, caspase-3 and caspase-7, in a cell line that contains an integrated hepatitis B virus genome - hep3B cells.
The compound also induces TGR5 (a receptor belonging to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily) which results in increased energy expenditure in brown adipose tissue.
Serum levels of Taurolithocholic Acid are found to be elevated following an oral lipid tolerance test and in patients with an Enterococcus infection.
Avanti Research provides quality Taurolithocholic Acid detergent with high purity and stability.
