Tauro-ω-Muricholic Acid is a taurine-conjugated base of the secondary bile acid (BA) ω-muricholic acid. The metabolite is a product of the biological process of conjugation between ω-muricholic acid and the amino acid taurine.
ω-Muricholic acid, on the other hand, belongs to the class of muricholic acids and both its hydroxy groups at positions 6 and 7 have accordingly α- and β-configuration. The BA is synthesized as a result of enzymatic conversion of β-MCA by various microorganisms from the intestinal flora, including Clostridium.
Tauro-ω-Muricholic Acid has been the subject of an investigation on BAs as potential biomarkers for neonatal sepsis. There is considerable evidence that Tauro-ω-Muricholic Acid is amongst the BAs predominantly found in the serum of infants with early emerging neonatal sepsis.
The taurine-conjugated compound is suitable to implicate in a variety of extensive analyses and studies in the field of BAs and their derivatives to further evaluate and understand their functions and behavior as human metabolites.
