β-sitosterol is a phytosterol (plant sterol) found in a wide variety of plants such as pecans, saw palmetto, avocados, pumpkin seed, rice bran, wheat germ, and soybeans. Recently, sitosterol has been investigated as a substitute for cholesterol in lipid-based mRNA delivery systems.
