Glycodeoxycholic acid-d4
5β-cholanic (2,2,4,4-d4) acid-3α,12α-diol N-(carboxymethyl)-amide
Glycodeoxycholic Acid-d4 is the deuterated version of the metabolite glycodeoxycholic acid. A deuterated compound is formed when a hydrogen atom is replaced by one of its heavier isotopes: deuterium.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid, also known as Glycodeoxycholate or Deoxycholylglycine, is a bile acid (BA) present mainly as a sodium salt in the human body. It’s a glycine conjugate of the secondary BA deoxycholic acid—a gallstone dissolving agent. It is formed when deoxycholic acid undergoes conjugation with the amino acid glycine.
Glycodeoxycholic Acid is known to act as a detergent that aids fats solubilization and absorption. It’s also a cholagogue and choleretic, stimulating the release of bile from the gallbladder.
The conjugate has been the subject of several studies. It has been found to promote a reversible, concentration-dependent reduction in myogenic tone in rats and to prevent the expression of the gene, encoding the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoform 7A1 in rabbits. Also, serum levels of the metabolite are proven elevated in non-surviving patients with acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure and in patients suffering from asthma. Glycodeoxycholic acid is also involved in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic pancreatitis. In addition, it induces IL-22 secretion in the intestinal group 3 innate lymphoid cells through the GATA-binding protein 3 and IL-22, improving the polycystic ovary syndrome.
The deuterated version, Glycodeoxycholic Acid-d4, is aimed for use as an internal standard for the quantification of glycodeoxycholic acid.
