Ursodeoxycholic acid-d4
5β-cholanic acid-3α,7b-diol (2,2,4,4-d4)
Ursodeoxycholic acid-d4 is a deuterated version of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA/Ursodiol) with anticholelithogenic effects. This compound has a wide application in medical research and experiments.
Ursodiol is a secondary bile acid formed by the epimerization of chenodeoxycholic acid, which is a primary bile acid.
Primary bile acids are synthesized from cholesterol in the liver and stored in the gallbladder to be secreted in the duodenum after food intake as they are necessary for fat digestion. Afterward, they move through the gut and reach the colon where the microflora of the large intestine transforms them into secondary bile acids (UCDA) or short-chain fatty acids.
Bile acids, including ursodeoxycholic acid-d4, are increasingly suggested to be involved in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, reducing high glucose serum levels and improving insulin resistance. They have a positive impact on cholestasis, and inflammatory biliary, hepatic, or intestinal diseases.
However, over the past years, other bile acids have been found to stimulate neoplastic growth.
Therefore, it is valuable to research and observe amounts and profiles of bile acids, along with UDCA-d4, and relate them to different conditions and diagnoses to understand their actual mechanism of action and properties.
Ursodeoxycholic acid-d4 has an important role to serve as an internal standard for the quantification of bile acids through liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
Avanti’s Ursodeoxycholic acid-d4 is the ideal choice of product for quality analytical services.
