Cholic acid-d₄ is a deuterium-labeled analog of cholic acid designed for high-precision mass spectrometry and NMR-based lipidomics. It offers excellent spectral resolution and minimal chromatographic shift thanks to four non-exchangeable hydrogen atoms replaced by deuterium.
This deuterated substitution provides a more accurate quantification of endogenous cholic acid in complex biological matrices such as serum, plasma, bile, and feces.
As a primary bile acid synthesized in hepatocytes through cholesterol metabolism, cholic acid is critical in emulsifying dietary fats, eliminating excess cholesterol, and modulating gut microbiota activity.
